Nortel has won a US$12 million contract to supply digital cable television to broadcasters in Gansu province in the western part of China. Nortel stated that according to the contract high-speed Internet will also be provided for e-learning programs and e-government services. Digital voice, data, video and multimedia services will be available in certain areas. Nortel will use a single converged voice, data and broadcast cable network for the project.

Export Development Canada is financing the project, which is expected to be finished at the end of 2005.
